Protest at National Hospital and Amin Jute Mills in Chattogram for salary

Nurses of National Hospital and workers of Amin Jute Mills staged separate protests in Chattogram demanding salaries and bonuses.

The agitating nurses and staff of the National Hospital staged a protest in the city's Mehedibagh area on Monday at around 12:30 pm as the hospital has not paid their salaries and bonuses even though they risk their lives at work amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

Md Rashed, assistant manager of the National Hospital, told The Business Standard that there was a delay in distributing salaries and bonuses because of a lack of funds.

Meanwhile, workers of Amin Jute Mills held a human chain program at the Shahid Minar Gate in the Aturar Depo area of ​​Chattogram city on Monday afternoon for transferred workers' salaries.

Kamal Uddin, office secretary of the Amin Jute Mills Workers' Union, told The Business Standard that the state-owned jute mills were supposed to pay wages to all permanent and temporary workers during the general holidays. 

But the mill has not paid the temporary workers any wages during the general holidays, he added.

About 1,500 temporary workers of 8 jute mills in Chattogram, including 320 workers of Amin Jute Mills, have not received wages.
