Police force reports first death from coronavirus

A 39-year-old constable of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has died from the novel coronavirus on Tuesday night.

The deceased- Jasim Uddin, a member of Wari division police, died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital after fighting with Covid-19 for past few days.

Confirming the matter, Sohel Rana, assistant inspector general of police headquarters, said, "Bangladesh police lost a brave soul."

The police constable fell sick on April 24. After that he had been undergoing treatment staying in home quarantine. His sample was sent to IEDCR. Suddenly, his physical condition deteriorated and he was rushed to DMCH. There he died on yesterday night, said a press release issued by the police headquarters.

After testing his sample, IEDCR today confirmed that he was infected with Covid-19, the press release reads further.
