Another member of the Chattogram district police died from the novel coronavirus on Thursday, taking the death toll from Covid-19 among law enforcers to 10.

The deceased Mokhlesur Rahman was a constable posted to the Sadar Court. Confirming the matter to The Business Standard, Assistant Inspector General Sohel Rana said, "We lost another brave soul."

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Benazir Ahmed expressed grief and shock at the death of the constable.

So far 3,235 policemen have been infected with the virus till Thursday of which 1,277 are members of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police.

Three thousand and five hundred cops have remained in quarantine while 1,233 in isolation units in the country. 

However, 569 police personnel have recovered from the viral disease to date.

Bangladesh on Thursday confirmed its highest single-day death toll of 22 from the novel coronavirus and 1,773 new cases of Covid-19 after testing 10,262 samples in the last 24 hours.

With this, death toll from the deadly virus rose to 408 and the number of total infections stood at 28,511.
