Police catch Dhaka-returnee coronavirus patient with family in Barguna

Police have caught a coronavirus patient along with his wife and child who came to Barguna from Dhaka in an ambulance.

The patient, a resident at Ward 4 of Barguna municipality, with his facility reached his home on Thursday.

Upon their arrival, local people informed local police. Police rushed to his home, found him sick with coronavirus-like symptoms and immediately sent them to quarantine.

Later, on Friday, being informed, the officials from the Barguna district health department came and took samples from the patient for coronavirus test.

Today when his test reports came positive, the man has been admitted to the isolation ward of Barguna General Hospital.

The district administration is now trying to know whether anyone else arrived from Dhaka by that ambulance.

One of the neighbours of the patient said a few days back the man along with his wife and child went to visit his daughter in Dhaka.

Seeking anonymity, a neighbour of the patient told The Business Standard, "The ambulance in which they arrived from Dhaka had its sirens turned on. When I heard the siren, I got out of the house to see what was going on."

"When I got out, I saw the man and his family members coming out of the ambulance and going towards their home. Later, I informed the police that they came back from Dhaka in such manner. Then the police came to their house," the neighbour added.

In this regard, Md Shahjahan Hossain, additional superintendent of police of Barguna Sadar circle, said, "When this man reached Barguna with his family, one of the locals immediately informed us about their arrival. On information, we immediately went to the man's house and asked the man and his family to go to quarantine."

Dr Humayun Shaheen Khan, civil surgeon of Barguna district, said, "The patient has been kept in the isolation ward of Barguna General Hospital. We are now trying to know he reached from Dhaka to Barguna."

Deputy Commissioner of Barguna, Mustain Billah said, "We have already put the residence of the patient and a few around it under lockdown."

"We have also started to look for the people who came in contact with the patient," the commissioner added.
