Nearly two lakh Bangladesh Police personnel are working on the front lines in a bid to contain the deadly Covid-19 pandemic.

Without thinking about their personal safety or protection, they have been performing their dutiessince the very beginning of the outbreak.

The police personnel are also helping to bury deceased coronavirus patients, as well as taking infected people to hospitals.

As of Thursday, 218 policemen have tested positive for the coronavirus and another 652 have been sent to home quarantine, read a press release issued by the police headquarters.

Despite the dangers posed by the pandemic, the police continue to do a tough job with a smile.

The press release further read, "Safety equipment have been provided among the policemen, who have been working in the field. There is still a lot of demand and we are trying to fulfill it.

"Police continue to take steps for ensuring social distance measures and legal actions have been taken against the violators.The police are also working to curb criminal activity, arresting criminals, as well as sending them to the court."

Besides, the police are trying to ensure security for emergency service workers who are providing food and medicine. 

The press release added, "Police are working tocontrolcommodity prices, curbing stockpiling and black marketing, taking strict action on irregularities in government relief and distribution of TCB [Trading Corporation of Bangladesh] products, andhelping to relocateopen markets.

Police personnel are also delivering food aid to people under their own initiative, and sending paddy harvesters to different places to keep the wheels of agriculture and economy running. 

The release also mentions that Inspector-General of Police Dr Benazir Ahmed is giving necessary directions for all members of the police, and providing support to the families of personnel infected with the Covid-19.

Besides, all possible initiatives are being taken to keep police personnel healthy while they are on duty.
