Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina directed the authorities concerned to conduct at least 1,000 tests daily on April 2

A total of 1,097 people were tested for Covid-19 in the last 24 hours across the country – the number exceeding four digits for the first time.

Of them, 618 samples were tested in nine labs in the capital city and 479 others were tested in seven labs outside Dhaka.

Professor Dr Sania Tahmina, additional director general at the Directorate General of Health Services, made the disclosure today during an online briefing on the novel coronavirus situation in the country.

From the very beginning, specialists were complaining about the limited scale of tests.

On April 2, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina directed the authorities concerned to conduct at least 1,000 tests daily. In line with the directive, the number of tests has been increased with 112 new confirmed Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours.
