Narail UP chairman sued for misappropriating VGD rice

Chairman Jarjid Molla embezzled 2,550 kgs of rice allocated for the poor under the government’s social safety net programme, says the case statement

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) filed a case against the union parishad (UP) chairman of Narail's Perli for misappropriating government rice.

Confirming the issue to The Business Standard, the anti-corruption watchdog's spokesperson Pranab Kumar Bhattacharya said, "The ACC Assistant Director MahfuzIqbal filed the case against JarjidMolla with the commission's Jessore office on Tuesday."

According to the case statement, Chairman JarjidMolla embezzled 2550 kgs of Vulnerable Group Development (VGD) rice allocated for the poor under the government's social safety net programme.

Before this, the ACC sued three UP chairmen, one member and two OMS (Open Market Sale) dealers around the country for misappropriating government allocated relief rice.

Kazi Shahidul Islam, chairman of Andharmanik Union Parishad in Barishal's Mehendiganj upazila and Aladdin Poltu, chairman of Barguna's Kakchira Union Parishad were sued on April 16. 

Also, Mirza Ghulam Hafiz Sohag of Maziihotta UP in Shibganj upazila of Bogra district was sued on 17 April.
