Mashrafe’s grandfather tests Covid-19 positive

The grandfather of national cricketer Mashrafe Bin Mortaza, who is a doctor of Khulna Medical College Hospital (KMCH), has been diagnosed with the Covid-19.

Dr Masud Ahmed, an assistant professor of Urology department at the KMCH, tested positive for the virus today.

Mashrafe, also a ruling-party lawmaker, has confirmed the information to The Business Standard.

KMCH Professor Dr Abdul Ahad said Dr Masud went through a PCR test for Covid-19 today [Saturday] as he had been suffering from fever, pain in the neck and the body.

Dr Masud currently resides in a rest house where he will be treated. The other residents of the rest house have been asked not to leave the place, said Dr Abdul Ahad.

Khulna now has two Covid-19 patients, including Dr Masud.

The family of the doctor lives in Dhaka. All the family members asked him to come to Dhaka in the wake of the coronavirus in the country. But he refused to leave the battlefield and continued to serve patients risking his life.

Dr Masud is one of the persons around whom Mashrafe spent his adolescence.

"I am feeling very sad over his infection," said the former national cricket team captain.

However, Mashrafe felt proud that his grandfather did not neglect his responsibility. "He continued to treat people amid the crisis." 

"We all pray for his quick recovery. If doctors are defeated, humanity will lose the battle," Mashrafe added.

KMCH lab sources said a total of 50 samples were tested for Covid-19 in the hospital on Saturday while one was found positive.

Earlier on April 14, a resident of Karimnagar in Khulna metropolitan area was found Covid-19 positive. The person is receiving treatment staying at home.
