Govt will bring vaccine from wherever available: Momen

Foreign Minister Dr A K Abdul Momen today said the government will bring the Covid-19 vaccine from wherever in the world it can get it for betterment of the countrymen.

"We will bring it from wherever we get for the welfare of our people," he said.

As per Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's instruction, Momen said, the Foreign Ministry is working on getting access to the potential Covid vaccines to be developed first in the world.

The foreign minister said the government has approached everywhere to get the potential Covid vaccine.

Momen made the remarks on the sideline of a discussion on Bangabandhu at the Jatiya Press Club in the capital.

On August 27, Bangladesh approved the final or phase-3 human trial of a prospective Covid-19 vaccine by China's private Sinovac Biotech Ltd, which appeared to be a forerunner in a global race for developing inoculates against coronavirus.

Sinovac has already started trial in Indonesia and they are franticly working to begin vaccine trials in many countries, including Turkey.

Indian Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla, while visiting Dhaka last month, said New Delhi would make its potential Covid-19 vaccine available for Bangladesh on priority basis once it was produced in partnership with its developer Oxford University.

Bangladesh has also contacted with Russian authority to get access to its Covid vaccine while Dhaka contributed an EU fund to get any potential vaccine of the coronavirus.
