The decision on when and how the vaccine will be given has not been taken yet, said the DG

Vaccination activities against Covid-19 pandemic can be started simultaneously across the country with the vaccine provided by the High Commission of India (Oxford-AstraZeneca Covid vaccines made at the Serum Institute) upon the direction of Health Ministry, said Directorate General of the health directorate Prof Abul Bashar Mohammad Khurshid Alam.

Three stores, including one at the EPI headquarters in Dhaka, are ready to store 20 lakh doses of Covid vaccine sent by the Indian government, he said.

The DG said that government has a plan to vaccinate all over the country simultaneously.

Khurshid Alam came up with the remarks while responding to reporters on Tuesday.

He said that 20 lakh Oxford-AstraZeneca Covid vaccines, a gift from the Indian government, would arrive in the country on Wednesday.

The vaccine will be taken directly from the airport in the cold chain of the DGHS, he said.

The decision on when and how the vaccine will be given has not been taken yet, said the DG.

Bangladesh will receive 20 lakh doses of the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine from India as a gift on 20 January, said Khurshid Alam confirming the matter to The Business Standard last night.

Sources at the Indian High Commission in Dhaka said the gift vaccine shots will arrive by air cargo.

Earlier on Monday, Health Minister Zahid Maleque told the press that the gift shots will arrive before 26 January.
