First coronavirus case detected in Bandarban

A man, who recently attended an event of  Tablig Jamaat, tested positive for coronavirus in Bandarban, the  first such case  in the hill district.

The patient is a 70-year old man and a resident of Tumbru Komarpara area in Ghumdhum union of Naikhangchhari upazila.

Dr Anup Chatia, principle of Cox's Bazar Medical College, said the man's sample tested positive for the virus in the hospital.

However, five others who also returned along with the man tested negative.

Dr Abu Zafor Mohammad Solim, Naikhangchari upazila health and family planning officer, said  total 54 samples were tested. Among them, the elderly man's sample tested positive. 

Upazila nirbahi officer Sadia Afrin Kochi, said that Ghumdhum union was put under lockdown after detection of the coronavirus patient.
