A journalist in Dinajpur received his Covid-19 positive report 15 days after providing his sample.

Dhiman Das – a resident of Pakerhat village in Khansama upazila – gave his sample on June 13 due to fever, cold, sneezing and cough.

The report came last Sunday night.

The upazila administration locked down the journalist's house when his report came.

However, he and all his family members are now well.

Dhiman – also the president of Khansama Upazila Puja Udjapan Parishad and general secretary of Angarpara Union Awami League – participated in various activities, including relief distribution, as he felt better four to five days after providing sample.

Dr Farooq Ahmed Rizwan, head of the medical team treating Covid-19 patients, said Dhiman was kept in isolation and was advised to follow the health regulations after his report came.

"The PCR machine at M Abdur Rahim Medical College can test 188 samples every day. But as more and more samples are coming from Dinajpur, Nilphamari and other districts every day, the reports are being delayed," said Dr Farooq.

In this situation, the number of PCR machines needs to be increased, he added.
