Director General of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) Professor Dr ABM Khurshid Alam and its Line Director Mizanur Rahman have tested positive for Covid-19.

Mizanur Rahman confirmed the matter to the media today (20 March).

"The director general and I went for Covid-19 test after we developed symptoms," he said, adding that two days ago the test results came positive.

"Currently we both are staying at our respective homes and feeling okay," Mizanur Rahman added.

Earlier on 17 March, DG ABM Khurshid Alam attended a programme on the occasion of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's birth centenary and National Children's Day, where Health Minister Zahid Maleque, Additional Director General of the Health Department Meerjady Sabrina Flora, Additional Director General Nasima Sultana and at least 20 other officials and employees of the department were present.

The number of Covid-19 cases now stands at 566,838 in the country, while the death toll counts 8,642. 

The country's maiden cases were reported on 8 March last year and the first death from the virus was reported on 18 March.
