CVASU researchers invent coronavirus-resistant fabric 

The vaccine of novel coronavirus (Covid-19) is yet to be discovered. But a team of researchers at Chittagong Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (CVASU) has invented a fabric that can resist the virus.  

The invention of the special fabric will help keep the wheel of the economy moving and also will provide protection to everyone. 

The coronavirus-resistant fabric and health care products will jointly be marketed by a local commercial company and a Switzerland-based firm.

Dr AM Zunaid Siddiqui, CVASU professor of pathology and parasitology, led the study.  

The researchers have claimed that this fabric is an anti-microbial coronavirus killer made from a special blend of advanced silver and vesicle technology - which kills 99.99 percent of the virus in just two minutes.

Even the Covid-19-resistant ingredients remain effective in the textile materials after washing 20 times.

When the virus comes in contact with the fabric, it will be destroyed in just two minutes. This coronavirus-resistant fabric can be used for preparing personal protective equipment (PPE), face masks, isolation gowns, overalls, shoe covers, denims, non-denims, pants, shirts, ladies wear, T-shirts, polo shirts, home textiles, air filters and even hospital uniforms.

Mohammad Razzakul Hossain Tutul, managing director of Root Group of Companies, said that a memorandum of understanding is underway between Root Group and CVASU for further research in this regard.

Root Group will provide all necessary financing to continue the research, he added. 

"The economy has almost come to a standstill for the outbreak of Covid-19. We have taken this initiative to see if we can get people back to work," Tutul said.  

"Although no specific drug or vaccine has been developed to prevent coronavirus, the users of this fabric will be able to ensure protection against Covid-19 infection," he added.
