Covid patient ‘commits suicide’ at Mugda Hospital

A Covid-19 patient has reportedly committed suicide on Friday night by jumping off the 11th floor of Mugda Medical College Hospital in the capital.

The deceased was identified as Asif Iqbal Sony, 50, resident of the capital's Eskaton area.

Confirming the matter to Somoy TV, hospital director Dr Ashin Kumar Nath said, "The patient was suffering from Covid-19 and was admitted in cabin No 1106. We do not know whether he fell off the balcony or something else happened."

"We later informed the police," he added.

A staff of the hospital mentioned about a suicide note where the Asif urged to bury him following Islamic Sharia rules.

"The patient was unmarried and most of his relatives live in the United States. He mentioned some phone numbers of his relatives, but nobody came to receive the body," he informed.

Proloy Kumar Saha, officer-in-charge of Mugda Police Station said, "We are investigating to find out the reason why the man committed suicide."
