Covid-19 vaccination for Bangladeshi peacekeepers on UN peacekeeping missions

After the advent of Covid-19 vaccines, vaccine distribution started in Bangladesh as well as in other countries of the world. Following this, vaccines were also given to army personnel and  UN headquarters was contacted to provide vaccines to Bangladeshi peacekeepers engaged in UN peacekeeping missions in different countries.

During his recent visit to the United States, Chief of Army Staff, Bangladesh Army, General Aziz Ahmed, exchanged views with senior officials of at UN Headquarters. Bangladesh requested that peacekeepers be vaccinated in UN-supervised mission areas.

He assured that all army personnel would be vaccinated before deployment of new peacekeepers from the country, reads a press release issued by the Inter Services Public Relations Directorate.

Among the countries sending peacekeepers, Bangladesh is the first country since March 2021 that has been deploying army personnel to mission areas after vaccinating them.

More recently, similar vaccines used in Bangladesh (AstraZeneca) have been given to Bangladeshi peacekeepers in mission areas under the auspices of the UN. At present a total of 6,885 Bangladeshi peacekeepers, including 5,308 army personnel are deployed by the United Nations in eight missions.
