Bangladesh logged 8 more deaths from the novel coronavirus in the last 24 hours till Saturday 8am.

The country's death toll from the virus now stands at 8,190, according to a press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

In the meantime, 305 people tested positive for Covid-19. The number of novel coronavirus cases in the country now stands at 537,770.

The latest day's infection rate was 2.51 percent of the total tests, though the overall rate in the country till date was 14.39 percent. The death rate stands at 1.52 percent.

417 patients were declared free of Covid-19 during the same period, raising the total number of recoveries to 482,841 with an 89.79 percent recovery rate.

Among the latest day's victims, six were men and two were women. All of them died in different hospitals across the country.

Moreover, five of them hailed from Dhaka, two each from Chattogram, and one from Khulna division.

Meanwhile, 12,135 samples were tested in 206 labs across the country in the past 24 hours. A total of 3,736,608 samples have been tested in the country so far.

The country's first Covid-19 case was reported on March 8, 2020 and the first death from the virus was reported on March 18.
