The death toll from Covid-19 rose to 6,748 in Bangladesh with 35 newly-reported deaths in the last 24 hours till 8:00 am Thursday.

In the meantime, 2,316 people were tested positive with the virus, which took the number of novel coronavirus cases in the country to 471,739, said a press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

The latest day's infection rate was 13.78% of the total tests, though the overall rate in the country till date was 16.72%. The death rate stands at 1.43%.

As many as 2,593 patients were declared free of Covid-19 during the last 24-hour, raising the total number of recoveries to 388,379 with an 82.33% recovery rate.

Among the latest day's victims, 23 were men and 12 were women. All the deceased died in different hospitals across the country.

Of them, 22 hailed from Dhaka, three each from Chattogram and Rangpur, one each from Rajshahi and Barishal divisions and five from Mymensingh

Meanwhile, 16,807 samples were tested in 118 labs across the country in the past 24 hours. A total of 28,20,981 samples have been tested in the country so far.

The gender breakdown of Covid-19 victims shows that 5,164 of the total deceased were men and 1,584 were women.

In the last 24 hours, 998 people were placed in quarantine. Now, 41,183 people are in quarantine across the country, read the press release.

It said 233 Covid-19 suspected patients were taken into isolation in last 24 hours. Now, 12,959 people are staying in different isolation units across the country.
