In the last 24 hours, under 1000 people have tested positive for Covid-19

Bangladesh has reported 17 more deaths from the novel coronavirus in the last 24 hours till Friday 8am.

The country's death toll from the virus now stands at 7,576, according to a press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

In the last 24 hours, 990 people tested positive for Covid-19. The number of novel coronavirus cases in the country now stands at 514,500.

The latest day's infection rate was 8.18% of the total tests. The overall infection rate in the country to date was 15.88%. The death rate stands at 1.47%.

Meanwhile, 1,197 patients were declared free of Covid-19 during the same period, raising the total number of recoveries to 458,656 with an 89.15% recovery rate.

Among the latest day's victims, 10 were men and seven were women. Sixteen of these patients died at different hospitals across the country while one died at home.

Moreover, 12 of them hailed from Dhaka, two each from Chattogram and Khulna and one from Rangpur.

In the last 24 hours, 12,103 samples were tested in 180 labs across the country. So far, 3,239,701 samples have been tested in the country.

The gender breakdown of Covid-19 victims shows that 5,764 of the total deceased were men and 1,812 were women.

The country's first Covid-19 case was reported on 8 March this year and the first death from the virus was reported on 18 March.
