CMC sets up coronavirus sample test lab
“So far only a few samples were being tested on the first day”
Chattogram Medical College (CMC) has set up a lab in its microbiology department to test the novel coronavirus samples.
The lab was set up on Saturday, making it the third one in Chattogram alongside the ones at Bangladesh Institute of Tropical and Infectious Diseases (BITID) in Faujdarhat and Chittagong Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (CVASU).
"So far only a few samples were being tested on the first day, however, gradually the amount of sample testing in the lab will be increased," said CMC Principal Prof Dr Mohammad Shameem Hasan.
He said he also thinks that this will reduce the hassle of sample testing.
Earlier on May 3, the PCR machine installed in CMC was found to be faulty and the Covid-19 test became uncertain. Later, the machine was sent to Dhaka on the same day for repairs.
Later on May 4, at the request of Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Biplab Barua, a PCR machine was brought from CVASU to CMC in Chattogram to reduce sample cluttering.
