Chattogram reports first child death from coronavirus

So far two people died from the virus and 14 people are infected in Chattogram, according to government data

A six-year-old physically challenged child, the youngest victim in Bangladesh, has died from coronavirus early Monday morning at Chattogram General Hospital (CGH).

"The child who was found coronavirus positive after testing his sample at Bangladesh Institute of Tropical and Infectious Disease (BITID) in Chattogram on Sunday died from the virus at around 2:30am on Monday at CGH," said Chattogram Civil Surgeon Dr Sheikh Fazle Rabbi.  

"The child was first taken to the Patiya Upazila Health Complex on Saturday with breathing problem. Then the doctors sent him to CGH as he was showing coronavirus symptoms and sent his test samples to BITID," said Farzana Jahan Upama, Upzaila Nirbahai Officer of Patiya.

So far two people died from the virus and 14 people are infected in Chattogram, according to government data.

The UNO and the child's family said that as the child was physically challenged and he could not go out from home. So, they are not sure how the child was infected with the virus.

But one of his relatives came from Oman about a month ago and stayed with the family for one week. Besides, a banker, who is working in Narayanganj district, visited the family twice last week.

The local administration brought the child's house including some adjacent houses under lockdown after the child was infected.

So far 34 people died from the virus and 621 people are infected in the country.
