10 doctors fired for avoiding duty at isolation centre in Ctg

The Chattogram City Corporation has fired 11 people, including 10 doctors, for disobeying instructions to work at a Covid-19 isolation centre in the city.

Chattogram City Corporation Chief Health Officer Dr Selim Akhter Chowdhury confirmed the matter to The Business Standard on Tuesday.

"The mayor announced double pay for doctors; they will get all the incentives provided by the government. Despite all the security measures, these doctors did not join the isolation centre. So, they have been fired," he said.

The sacked doctors did not join work at the isolation centre despite being promised double their salaries and incentives as per government rules.

In a circular signed by the city corporation secretary on Tuesday, the doctors were fired for not reporting to duty at the coronavirus isolation centre of the Chattogram City Hall Community Centre on Agrabad Access Road.

The released doctors are: Dr Siddharth Shankar Debnath, Dr Faridul Alam, Dr Abdul Majid Sikder, Dr Selina Akter, Dr Vijay Talukder, Dr Mohan Das, Dr Iftekharul Islam, Dr Sandeepan Rudra, Dr Himel Acharya, and Dr Prosenjit Mitra.

Storekeeper Mohsin Kabir was also released for the same reason.
