‘Call to run mobile courts to tackle second wave of Covid-19’

Speakers at an event called to run mobile court drives to tackle the second wave of Covid-19. They spoke in favour of taking strict actions against those who do not follow health protocols, do not maintain social distancing, or roam around without face masks.

Leaders of World Watch Society, a non-government organisation, made the plea at a human chain in front of the National Press Club in the city on Saturday.

Supreme Court lawyer, Lutfor Rahman, chairman of World Watch Society, said "There is a a strong likelihood of the virus spreading this winter. If we do not take the necessary steps to raise public awareness before then, the virus will become uncontrollable and will take a terrible human toll."

"There is no point in blaming the government if the public themselves are not aware. When you get on public transport, you can see that most of the passengers are not wearing masks! We still don't appreciate the risks,'' he said.

World Watch Society also urged the people of the country to lead public awareness activities to prevent the spread of the deadly virus.

"Special awareness campaigns should be conducted to protect the elderly, expectant women and children," it also said.

We also need to run a mass campaign to reinforce the criticality of properly following the health protocols, the speakers said.  

World Watch Society Director, Advocate Khandaker Sawat; Special Public Prosecutor, Advocate Nasima Begum; Executive Director, Sheikh Tariqul Islam and many others joined the human chain.
