Bangladesh Scouts conduct online awareness campaign on Covid-19

The Bangladesh Scouts is collaborating with the government and other organisations to curb the spread of coronavirus through online awareness campaigns.

A Coronavirus Co-ordination Cell (CCC) has also been established at the headquarters of the Bangladesh Scouts, read a press release on Saturday.

Dr Md Mozammel Haque Khan, chief national commissioner of the Bangladesh Scouts and commissioner (enquiry) of the Anti-Corruption Commission, in an online conference recently urged the national commissioners and national deputy commissioners of the organisation to monitor the activities of their respective districts.

Md Abul Kalam Azad, president of the Bangladesh Scouts and former Principal SDG Coordinator at the Prime Minister's Office, said scouts have already started conducting online training and awareness activities through telecommunication and social media from their homes.

"Recreational time can both be entertaining and educational. To that end, Bangladesh Scouts are conducting various online activities in collaboration with various organisations," he added.

Kalam further said they expect all citizens to cooperate with the government from their own positions to bring the situation back to normal.

As all educational institutions have been shut down temporarily to curb the spread of coronavirus, children are spending time at home unproductively.

The scouts have targeted this free time to help children and the youths develop their skills by conducting various online activities entailing Covid-19 awareness and safety protocol training, a "Hand Wash Challenge," poetry recitals, paintings, book reading competitions, etc.

UNDP, Dettol Harpic Porichchonno Bangladesh, World Literature Center, Duronto Television and several other organisations have teamed up with the Bangladesh Scouts to help conduct these activities.
