Bangladesh reports 43 more deaths from coronavirus, 3,809 new cases

Bangladesh today confirmed 43 more deaths from the novel coronavirus and 3,809 new cases of infection in the last 24 hours, while the global death toll from the virus has crossed five lakh and more than one crore people have been infected so far.

With this, the death toll from the deadly virus rose to 1,738 and the number of total infections stood at 137,787. Some 1,409 patients cured during this time.

"Among the dead patients, 21 were from Dhaka, 10 from Chattogram, three each from Khulna and Sylhet, two from Rahshahi and Barishal, one each from Rangpur and Mymensingh," Additional Director General of Health Directorate Professor Dr Nasima Sultana made the disclosure during a virtual briefing today.

Thirty patients died in different hospitals, twelve at their respective homes and one was diagnosed with the infection after death.

"Some 17,034 samples were collected in last 24 hours and 18,092 were tested in 65 labs across country. So far 730,197, samples have been tested," she added.

Besides, 1,409 patients have recovered during the time, increasing the tally to 55,727.

According to the latest data by DGHS, 40.44 percent coronavirus infected patients (both Symptomatic and Asymptomatic) have recovered and 1.26 percent died. The infection rate has been 21.05 percent today.

However, the infection rate in the country till date counts 18.87 percent.

Currently, 64,598 people are quarantined across the country – including 3,090 newly-quarantined individuals. A total of 293,673 people have completed their quarantine course.

Nasima Sultana said, "The authorities placed 717 new individuals suspected of having Covid-19 into isolation, bringing the total to 14,523 after 10,227 left."

As many as 13,611,751 hotline health services were given by 16,404 trained and 4,217 volunteer doctors via three designated numbers, including 167,217 in the last 24-hour till 8am today. 

Till date, a total of 733,488 thermal screenings were conducted at different ports, including 731 at airports, 191 at seaports and 386 at land ports in the last 24 hours. 

As per the data provided by Central Medical Stores Depot (CMSD), personal protective equipment (PPE) collected by the government has been 2,528,245 till date, of which 2,376,564 were distributed and 151,661 are left in store.

Dr Nasima further added that the number of general beds dedicated to Covid-19 treatment in Dhaka city and countrywide are respectively 5,985 and 14,348, while the ICU beds count for 202 in Dhaka metropolitan and 421 in the whole country. There are 10,866 oxygen cylinders, 102 high-flow nasal cannula and 98 oxygen concentrator available across the country.

However, only 4,898 general beds and 196 ICU beds are currently occupied by the patients receiving Covid-19 treatment countrywide.
