60% Covid-19 deaths reported in Dhaka Division

After Dhaka, the highest number of Covid-19 deaths was reported in Chattogram Division

Bangladesh on Thursday confirmed another 35 deaths from the novel coronavirus. The current Covid-19 death toll stands at 781 in the country, while the death rate stands at 1.36 percent.

Most of the people who died of Covid-19 in Bangladesh are from Dhaka. A staggering 60.7 percent of the deceased coronavirus patients were from the Dhaka city and Dhaka Division.

After Dhaka, the highest number of Covid-19 deaths was reported in Chattogram Division.

According To the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), 474 people have died of Covid-19 in Dhaka city and division so far.

Followed by 206 people (26.4 percent) in Chattogram Division, 26 (3.3 percent) in Sylhet Division, 21 (2.7 percent) in Rangpur Division, 16 (2 percent) in Mymensingh Division, 16 (2 percent) in Barishal Division, 12 (1.5 percent) in Khulna Division and 10 (1.3 percent) in Rajshahi Division.

In the 24 hour period from Wednesday 8am to Thursday 8am, 2,423 people tested positive for the coronavirus. With this, the total number of infected in the country has reached 57,563. 

During the same period, 12,694 samples were tested in 50 labs across the country and so far 358,187 samples have been tested.

Making the announcement while addressing a virtual briefing on Thursday, Additional Director General of Health Directorate Professor Dr Nasima Sultana said, "Among the recently deceased Covid-19 patients, 29 are male and six are female.

"Among them, 21 are from Dhaka, nine from Chattogram, two from Sylhet and one each from Rajshahi, Barishal and Khulna. Twenty-nine patients died at different hospitals, five at their homes and one was diagnosed with the infection after death."

Besides, the number of patients who recovered now stands at 12,161 as another 571 recovered from the virus in the 24 hour period.

According to the latest data by the DGHS, 21.13 percent Covid-19 patients have recovered and the infection rate was 19.09% on Thursday.

Another 324 policemen test positive for Covid-19

In the 24 hour period from Wednesday 8am to Thursday 8am, 324 more police personnel tested positive for the coronavirus, according to police sources.

As per Police Headquarters statistics, 5,831 police personnel tested Covid-19 positive as of Thursday and 1,777 of them are from the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP). The number of infected policemen was 5,507 a day ago.

Around 2,122 police personnel have recovered from the viral disease till Thursday, while 5,559 are in home quarantine and 1,640 are in isolation.

As of Thursday, 16 policemen, including a civilian staff member who was a stenographer of the DMP, have died from the novel coronavirus.
