Covid-19 death toll reaches 1,171

The infection rate from Covid-19 in the country has started to rise again. 

Another 3,141 people tested positive on Sunday in the past 24 hours ending at 8am which was 2,856 on the previous day. 

However, the death toll fell to 32.

It was 44 on the previous day and 46 the day before that – the highest single-day fatality.

Among Sunday's deceased, 16 were men and 11 women. 

Of them, 16 were from Dhaka division, 11 from Chattogram, two each from Khulna and Barishal and one each from Rajshahi and Mymensingh, Additional Director General (Administration) of the Directorate General of Health Services Professor Nasima Sultana revealed the latest figures on Sunday in a daily online health bulletin.

"Twenty of them died in hospital, 11 at home, and one tested Covid-19 positive after death."

With this, the death toll from the virus rose to 1,171 and infections to 87,520. 

The death toll accounted for 1.34 percent of the total infected. 

In the county, 903 patients recovered from the virus up to now, taking the total to 18,730 – 21.40 percent of all infected. 

Dr Nasima said, "14,690 samples were collected at that time. Of those, 14,505 samples were tested in 60 authorised labs across the country and 3,141 of them or 21.65 percent tested Covid-19 positive. Total 501,465 tests have been conducted so far."

Bangladesh ranked 18th in the list of the countries hit hardest by Covid-19 until Sunday, according to Worldometer data. 

The virus claimed 432,894 lives and infected 7,897,248 people across the world till 4:45pm on Sunday, it showed.
