Bangladesh has confirmed 13 more deaths from the novel coronavirus in the last 24 hours

In the last 24 hours, 912 people have tested positive for Covid-19 – the highest amount in nearly two months. The latest day's infection rate was 5.13% of the total tests.

Bangladesh confirmed 13 more deaths from the novel coronavirus in the last 24 hours. The country's death toll from the virus now stands at 8,489.

The Covid-19 daily infection rate in the country has gone over 5% after 50 days. Earlier, on 18 January, the daily infection rate was 5.49%, and then it was on a downtrend.

The number of novel coronavirus cases in the country now stands at 5,52,087, said a press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

Among the latest day's victims, all 13 were men. Ten of them were from Dhaka, and one each was from the Chattogram, Rangpur and Barishal divisions. All the deceased died in different hospitals across the country.

Meanwhile, 17,775 samples were tested in 219 labs across the country in the past 24 hours. A total of 41,80,938 samples have been tested in the country so far.

Also, 1,229 patients were declared free of Covid-19 during the same period, raising the total number of recoveries to 5,05,349 with a 91.53 recovery rate.

The country's maiden cases were reported on 8 March last year and the first death from the virus was reported on 18 March.

On Tuesday, the 24th day of the mass vaccination campaign, Bangladesh inoculated 1,07,463 people. The country has vaccinated 40,13,963 people since the campaign began on 7 February.
