The Bangladesh government is arranging a special chartered flight of Qatar Airways to bring home stranded Bangladesh citizens from the USA.

The flight may operate on May 14 or 15.

The Bangladesh Embassy in the USA posted the information on its website on Wednesday.

The embassy notice said that a large number of Bangladeshis who are stranded in the USA amid the Covid-19 pandemic situation have requested the embassy to arrange a special chartered flight to bring them back to Bangladesh.

Accordingly, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Bangladesh Missions in the USA are coordinating to arrange a chartered flight of Qatar Airways either from Washington Dulles International Airport or New York John F Kennedy (JFK) Airport possibly on 14 May or 15 May, depending on the availability of a minimum required number of passengers to run the flight.

The embassy notice also says that the estimated ticket price of the flight in economy class will be around $2,200.

A Bangladeshi enterprise, named Oryx Aviation Ltd, will handle the chartering and ticketing formalities with Qatar Airways for this special flight.

The embassy has advised stranded Bangladeshi citizens in the USA who are willing to avail the flight at their own expense have been asked to contact Oryx Aviation Ltd by visiting its online portal (http://galaxyaviationbd.com/airticket/), register their names through this portal and purchase tickets to confirm seats in this flight by May 8.

It further says, following the registration and purchase of tickets, Oryx Aviation will get in touch individually with all confirmed passengers to notify them of further details about the flight.

The Bangladesh embassy said all confirmed passengers will have to make their own arrangements to travel to Washington Dulles (IAD) or JFK Airport to catch the charter flight on its designated date and time of departure.

After registration and ticketing formalities are completed, Qatar Airways will decide and inform the passengers about the departing airport for the special flight.
