So far 78 people have been tested positive for coronavirus in the district

Deputy commissioner (DC) of Bandarban Md Daudul Islam has been tested positive for Covid-19 infection.

District civil surgeon Aung Sui Marma confirmed the matter to The Business Standard on Thursday night.

He said, deputy commissioner and a doctor of a private hospital of the town have been diagnosed with coronavirus at Cox's Bazar Medical College Hospital lab.

Deputy commissioner Md Daudul Islam is now at his residence. The doctor went to Chattogram after giving his sample, he added.

So far 78 people have been tested positive for coronavirus in the district, the civil surgeon also said.  

Earlier, the district administration locked down two areas of Bandarban, marking them as "Red zone" areas as the virus infection increased. These areas are Bandarban Sadar Upazila municipality area and Ruma Upazila.

No vehicles except emergency services will be allowed in the areas.

"The areas will remain locked down until further instructions from the administration," Additional Deputy Commissioner (Overall) Shamim Hossain said on Wednesday.
