Army’s one-minute market in Chattogram

The army is distributing free vegetables – and other daily necessities – among poor families in Chattogram whose members have lost their jobs due to the novel coronavirus outbreak. 

The process, called a one-minute market, was set up at the Jamiatul Falah Mosque grounds, in the WASA Moor area of the city, from 10 am to 12 noon on Wednesday. 

One thousand listed poor families from the surrounding areas came to the market and took home the vegetables and products of their choice – for free.

The selected families were invited to collect the items over one minute at the market operated by the 34th Engineer Construction Brigade of Bangladesh Army. 

The market's vegetables are sourced from the farmers of Satkania, Lohagara, Sitakunda, Raozan and other upazilas at a fair price.

Army officer Brigadier General Ahmed Tanvir Mazhar Siddiqui said, "Each of the listed families were given a token to buy food at the market. When entering the market, they showed their token to take the vegetables of their choice for free. This service will be provided to 1,000 families, every day, for the next month. This market will travel to every area of the city in phases."
