The patients, who are currently being treated at the Covid-19 unit of Anwer Khan Modern Hospital, have to pay for their treatment from now on as the hospital authorities cancelled a deal with the government on Wednesday.

Starting from May 15, the hospital had a deal with the government to treat the Covid-19 patients free till end of June. But, they have cancelled the deal suddenly.

"We started Covid-19 hospital on the basis of public-private cooperation. Now we feel that we can run the hospital by ourselves. And we also think we can serve patients more smoothly now," said Dr Ehteshamul Haque, Director (Administration) of the hospital.

"We applied to the health secretary and the ministry seeking the permission. As per the approval, we are running the Covid-19 hospital alone from June 1," he added.

Dr Ehteshamul further said, "Covid-19 patients did not have to pay for the treatment till May 31. Few patients were charged due to clerical mistakes. We already have returned the bill money to some patients and other patients, who were charged, will get refund soon."

Anwer Khan Modern Hospital started Covid-19 unit with 200 beds on May 15. They have facilities to treat Covid-19 and non-Covid-19 patients.
