So far, Bangladesh Police have reported the deaths of 53 police members from the deadly virus

Two police constables died from the novel coronavirus in the capital on Thursday.

The deceased are: Md Alamgir Hossain, 55, a constable of Hazaribagh police outpost under Ramna division of DMP and Constable Chhotan Dev, 29, from Cox's Bazar district police station.

"Md Alamgir Hossain was undergoing treatment at Rajarbagh Central Police Hospital after testing positive for the novel coronavirus," Assistant Inspector General (AIG) of police Sohel Rana told The Business Standard.

He died while undergoing treatment at 12.30 pm yesterday, he added.

His body was sent to his village home by the help of Bangladesh Police. The body was buried in the family graveyard in presence of senior police officials.

Constable Chhotan Dev died at Rajarbagh Central Police Hospital on Thursday morning.

The body has been sent the village home in Chattogram under the management of Bangladesh Police. He will be buried in the presence of senior officers of the district police.

He joined the Bangladesh Police on 14 August 2011. Chhotan Dev left behind his wife and 14-month old daughter.

So far, Bangladesh Police have reported the deaths of 53 police members from the deadly virus.

A total of 6,206 police personnel have tested Covid-19 positive as of Sunday, according to a source at Police Headquarters.
