Covid-19 claims 8 more lives, infects 326

Bangladesh recorded eight more deaths from the novel coronavirus and 326 new cases in the last 24 hours till Sunday at 8am.

The country's death toll from the virus now stands at 8,274, read a press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

Also, the number of novel coronavirus cases in the country rose to 540,592.

The latest day's infection rate was 2.53% of the total tests, though the overall rate in the country till date was 14.05%. The death rate stands at 1.53%.

Among the latest day's victims, five were men and three were women.

Moreover, five of them hailed from Dhaka, and one each from Rajshahi, Barishal and Mymensingh.

All the deceased died in different hospitals across the country.

Meanwhile, 12,900 samples were tested in 210 labs across the country in the past 24 hours. A total of 3,848,116 samples have been tested in the country so far.

Also, 462 patients were declared free of Covid-19 during the same period, raising the total number of recoveries to 487,229 with a 90.13% recovery rate.

The country's maiden cases were reported on 8 March last year and the first death from the virus was reported on 18 March.
