Some 69 members of Cox's Bazar district police have contracted Covid-19 while performing their duty.

ABM Masud Hossain, superintendent of police in Cox's Bazar, confirmed the matter in a Facebook post.

"Till Wednesday, 69 police personnel in the district  have been infected with coronavirus. They caught the virus while performing their duty for the state. We are yet to get test reports of many others," ABM Masud said.

"More than 150 cops have been put in quarantine in different hotels. Three with critical conditions were sent to Rajarbagh Central Police Hospital. Their health condition is now improving," the Facebook post reads.

He further said, "We are deeply committed to controlling crime and implementing lockdown despite all risks. Various steps have been taken including delivering special food to the quarantine and isolation centres to cheer them up. A high-quality ambulance has also been hired for the infected police members."

According to the police super, additional forces have been deployed in Chakaria area at the request of the local lawmaker  to maintain law and order situation there as Covid-19 has spread in the area at a high rate.

He requested everyone to pray for the recovery of all the Covid-19 infected police members.
