42 more die from Covid-19

Bangladesh has confirmed 42 more deaths from the novel coronavirus in the last 24 hours until Sunday 8am.

With this, the death toll now stands at 4,248 and the death rate stands at 1.37 percent, according to a press release from the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Sunday.

In the last 24 hours, 1,897 people tested positive for Covid-19 and the infection rate stood at 15.90 percent.

With the new cases, the country now has 310,822 Covid-19 cases at an infection rate of 20.21 percent, according to the DGHS.

A total of 3,044 patients have recovered from the novel coronavirus in the past 24 hours and the total number of recoveries reached 201,907 while the recovery rate is 64.96 percent.

Some 12,120 samples were collected during the period and 11,934 were tested in 92 labs across the country. The number of samples tested so far is 15,37,749.

Of the deceased individuals, 35 were men and seven were women. Moreover, 18 of them hailed from Dhaka, eight from Chattogram, seven from Khulna, five from Rangpur and three from Rajshahi division.

All of the deceased died in different hospitals across the country.

The gender breakdown of Covid-19 victims shows that 3,335, or 78.51 percent, were men, and 913, or 21.49 percent, were women.

Bangladesh first confirmed its cases of Covid-19 on March 8; by March 18 it had confirmed its first death from the virus.

The deadly virus has killed 847,045 people globally and infected 25,187,847 people as of Sunday.
