Bangladesh has confirmed 33 more deaths from Covid-19 in the last 24 hours until Friday 8am, while 1,396 people have tested positive for the novel coronavirus.

The country's death toll from the virus now stands at 5,305, read a press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

Now, the number of novel coronavirus cases in the country stands at 366,383.

Among the deceased, 25 were men and eight were women. Moreover, 21 of them hailed from Dhaka, six from Chattogram, three from Rajshahi, as well as one each from the Khulna, Mymensingh and Barishal divisions.

All of them died in different hospitals across the country, reads the statement.

In the last 24 hours, 11,176 samples were tested in 109 labs across the country. With this, 1,970,251 samples have been tested in the country so far.

The latest day's infection rate was 12.49% of the total tests, though the overall rate in the country till date was 18.60%. The death rate stands at 1.45%.

In the past 24 hours, 1,549 patients were declared free of Covid-19, raising the total number of recoveries to 278,627 with a 76.05% recovery rate.

The gender breakdown of Covid-19 victims shows that 4,104 of the total deceased were men, and 1,201 were women.

The country's maiden cases were reported on March 8 this year and the first death from the virus was reported on March 18.
