With 30 fresh deaths, the toll reaches 6,305

Thirty more people died from Covid-19 in the last 24 hours till Thursday at 8am, while the daily cases reached the highest number in 78 days.

According to a press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), 2,364 people tested positive for the novel coronavirus in the last 24 hours.

Previously, the highest daily cases were reported on 2 September, when 2,582 people tested positive for the virus in a single day.

The country's coronavirus death toll now stands at 6,305 and the number of total cases has reached 441,159.

The latest day's infection rate was 13.48% of the total tests, though the overall rate in the country till date was 16.92%. The death rate stands at 1.43%.

Also, 1,934 patients were declared free of Covid-19 during the same period, raising the total number of recoveries to 356,722 with an 80.86% recovery rate.

The latest day's victims include 25 men and five women. All of them died in different hospitals across the country.

Among them, 25 hail from Dhaka, one each from Chattogram, Rajshahi and Sylhet divisions and two from Barishal division.

Meanwhile, 17,531 samples were tested in 117 labs across the country in the past 24 hours. A total of 2,606,952 samples have been tested in the country so far.

The gender breakdown of Covid-19 victims' shows that 4,852 of the total deceased were men and 1,453 were women.

The country's maiden cases were reported on 8 March this year and the first death from the virus was reported 10 days later.
