Bangladesh confirmed 30 more deaths from the novel coronavirus in the last 24 hours.

The country's death toll from the virus now stands at 5,405 said a press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

In the last 24 hours, 1,499 people tested positive for Covid-19 and the number of novel coronavirus cases in the country now stands at 3, 71,631.

Among the deceased, 20 were men and 10 were women. Moreover, 19 of them hailed from Dhaka, four from Chattogram, Two each from Khulna, Barishal, Rangpur and one from Sylhet.

All the 30 dead persons died in different hospitals accross the country.

In the last 24 hours, 12,345 samples were tested in 109 labs across the country. With this, 20, 13,776 samples have been tested in the country so far.

The latest day's infection rate was 12.14% of the total tests, though the overall rate in the country till date was 18.45%. The death rate stands at 1.45%.

In the past 24 hours, 1,651 patients were declared free of Covid-19, raising the total number of recoveries to 284,833 with a 76.64% recovery rate.

The gender breakdown of Covid-19 victims shows that 4,175 of the total deceased were men, and 1,230 were women.

The country's maiden cases were reported on March 8 this year and the first death from the virus was reported on March 18.

The virus has killed 1,046,514 people globally and infected 35,732,698 so far.
