3 doctors of SBMC infected with coronavirus

Three doctors of Sher-e-Bangla Medical College (SBMC) have tested positive with the novel coronavirus. With this the number of patients in Barishal rises to 20.

Confirming the matter to The Business Standard, Director of the hospital Dr SM Bakir Hossain said, "One doctor of medicine department was working in corona unit and two intern doctors, who were treating their coronavirus infected roommate, a 5th year student of the college."

"Their results came on Saturday night and after that the three doctors have been kept in isolation," he added.

All of them are residents of the Sadar upazila. The samples were tested at SBMCH.

Barishal Deputy Commissioner SM Ozior Rahman said they placed the residences of the three doctors under lockdown. "We're also tracing their contacts," he said.

District Civil Surgeon Dr Monwar Hossain said, "Apart from the three doctors, a doctor couple from Agailjhara health complex, a 5th year student, a nurse of corona unit in medical, 2 nurses of Babuganj health complex and five other workers have been infected."

He further informed that the doctor couple and the student have been sent to Dhaka for better treatment. The have been admitted to Kuwait Bangladesh Friendship Government Hospital.

"The health department is always keeping contact with the infected doctors, nurses and workers for keeping them mentally strong. Hopefully they will recover very soon with everyone's prayer," he added.
