Bangladesh confirmed 28 more deaths from the novel coronavirus in the last 24 hours till 8am Thursday.

The country's death toll from the virus now stands at 7,559, said a press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

In the last 24 hours, 1,014 people tested positive for Covid-19, taking the number of novel coronavirus cases in the country to 5,13,510.

The latest day's infection rate was 7.65% of the total tests. The overall infection rate in the country to date was 15.91%, while the death rate was 1.47%.

Meanwhile, 1,389 patients were declared free of Covid-19 during the same period, raising the total number of recoveries to 457,459 with an 89.08% recovery rate.

Among the latest day's victims, 21 were men and seven were women. 26 of them died in different hospitals across the country, while two died at home.

Moreover, 22 of them hailed from Dhaka, three from Chattogram and one each from, Barishal, Rangpur and Mymensingh divisions.

Meanwhile, 13,254 samples were tested in 180 labs across the country in the past 24 hours. So far, 3,227,598 samples have been tested in the country.

A gender breakdown of Covid-19 victims shows that 5,754 of the total deceased were men and 1,805 were women.

The country's first Covid-19 cases were reported on 8 March this year and the first death from the virus was reported on 18 March.
