Bangladesh has reported 24 more deaths from the novel coronavirus in the last 24 hours till early Sunday.

Fatalities from the virus stood at 5,524 and the death rate at 1.46%, read a press release of the Directorate General of Health Services.

In the past 24 hours, 1,193 people have tested positive for Covid-19, bringing the total number of confirmed cases in the country to 378,266.

And 9,467 samples were tested in 109 labs over the same period. Overall, 2,070,995 samples have been tested in Bangladesh since the virus was detected.

The latest daily infection rate was 12.60%, while the overall rate stood at 18.26%.

However, the number of recovered patients reached 292,860 – including 1,495 new ones in the last 24 hours – and the recovery rate rose to 77.42%. 

Of the deceased, 19 were men and five were women. Division-wise, 17 of them were from Dhaka, two each from Chattogram and Khulna as well as one each from Sylhet, Rangpur and Mymensingh.

So far, 4,256 men and 1,268 women in Bangladesh have died of Covid-19.

The country first detected Covid-19 cases on 8 March this year and reported the first death from the virus on 18 March.
