Bangladesh reported 21 more deaths from the novel coronavirus in the last 24 hours until early Monday.

Fatalities from the virus reached 5,681, and the death rate stood at 1.46%, reads a press release of the Directorate General of Health Services.

In the past 24 hours, 1,637 people tested positive for Covid-19, bringing the total number of confirmed cases in the country to 390,206.

And 15,146 samples were tested in 110 labs over the same period. Overall, 2,178,714 samples have been tested in Bangladesh since the detection of the first cases.

The latest daily infection rate was 10.81%, while the overall rate stood at 17.91%.

However, the number of recovered patients reached 305,599   – including 1,627 new ones in the last 24 hours – and the recovery rate rose to 78.32%. 

Of the deceased, 14 were men and seven women. And thirteen of them were from Dhaka division, four from Chattogram, three from Rajshahi, and one from Barishal.

So far, 4,371 men and 1,310 women in Bangladesh have died from Covid-19.

The country first detected Covid-19 cases on 8 March this year and reported the first death from the virus on 18 March.
