2 more Rohingya refugees die from Covid-19 in Cox's Bazar

Two more Rohingya refugees died from Covid-19 at the camps in southern Bangladesh.

One of them was 58-year-old and a resident of camp-10 while another was 70-year-old and a resident of camp-7, confirmed Dr Abu Toha MR Bhuiyan, chief health coordinator at the Refugee Relief and Repatriation Commissioner's (RRRC) office in Cox's Bazar.

The 58-year-old died on Sunday while the other person passed away on Monday. 

Their samples were collected earlier and both of them tested Covid-19 positive on Tuesday. 

Dr Abu Toha said, "The news of their death was not disclosed earlier as we waited for the test reports. And both of them tested Covid-19 positive after death."

So far three Rohingya refugees at Ukhiya and Teknaf camps in Cox's Bazar died from the virus.

On June 6, the authorities marked the Cox's Bazar municipality as the first "red zone" in the country and imposed a lockdown. 

Also, the municipal area of ​​Chakaria upazila and wards 2, 3 and 8 of Dulahazara union of the upazila were declared red zones for Covid-19 infection on June 7. 

On the following day, Teknaf and Ukhiya were declared red zones as well.
