Bangladesh posts lowest Covid-19 new cases since August

Bangladesh on Saturday posted its lowest Covid-19 daily caseload in nearly three months, according to data released by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

The country recorded 19 more deaths from Covid-19 and 1,094 new cases in the last 24 hours till Saturday 8am, according to a DGHS press release.

The new caseload is the lowest in 82 days. Previously, the lowest number of infections in a single day was 886 on 2 August.

The total death toll from Covid-19 in the country now stands at 5,780, while the total number of cases reached to 3,97,507.

Meanwhile, the daily infection rate came down to below 10 after 6 months.

The latest day's infection rate was 9.95% of the total tests. Previously, the lowest daily infection rate was 9.6%, which was reported on April 17.

Though the overall rate in the country till date was 17.69%. The death rate stands at 1.45%.

Among the deceased, 17 were men and two were women. All the deceased died in different hospitals across the country.

Thirteen of the deceased hailed from Dhaka, three from Chattogram, two from Mymensingh and one from Khulna division.

A total of 10,998 samples were tested in 111 labs across the country in the last 24 hours. So far, 22,46,486 samples have been tested across the country.

1,498 patients were declared free of Covid-19 during the same period, raising the total number of recoveries to 3,13,563 with a 78.88% recovery rate.

The gender breakdown of Covid-19 victims shows that 4,452 of the total deceased were men, and 1,328 were women.

The country's maiden cases were reported on March 8 this year and the first death from the virus was reported on March 18.
