A total of 18 people died of coronavirus in the country in the last 24 hours till 8am Sunday.

The country's death toll from the lethal virus now stands at 5,941, according to a press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

A total of 1,568 new infections were recorded in the meantime, taking the number of people infected to 409,252.

The overall infection rate in the country stands at 17.42% till date while the death rate 1.45%.

Among the 18 dead in the latest day, 15 were men and three women. They all were undergoing treatment at different hospitals across the country.

Of them, 14 hailed from Dhaka division, three from Chattogram and the rest are from Sylhet.

Meanwhile, 12,549 samples were tested in 113 labs across the country in the last 24 hours. A total of 23,48,811 samples have so far been tested in the country, the press statement read.

In the last 24 hours, 1,795 patients recovered from the virus. The number of total recoveries in the country stands at 3,25,940 while the recovery rate is 79.64%.

The country has so far reported 4,568 male deaths and 1,373 female deaths from this deadly virus.

The country's maiden Covid-19 cases were reported on 8 March this year and the first death from the virus was on 18 March.
