Bangladesh reports lowest number of Covid-19 deaths in 4 months

Bangladesh has confirmed 17 more deaths from the novel coronavirus (Covid-19) in the last 24 hours until Friday 8:00am, which is the lowest daily Covid-19 death count in the last four months.

Previously, the lowest number of deaths from Covid-19 in a single day was 15, which was reported on 28 May.

The country's death toll from the virus now stands at 5,477 and the death rate stands at 1.46%, according to a press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

In the last 24 hours, 1,278 people tested positive for Covid-19 and the number of novel coronavirus cases in the country now stands at 375,870.

Among the deceased, nine were men and eight were women. Moreover, 12 of them hailed from Dhaka, two from Khulna division, and one each from Chattogram, Rangpur and Mymensingh.

All of them died in different hospitals across the country.

In the last 24 hours, 11,256 samples were tested in 109 labs across the country. With this, 2,050,669 samples have been tested in the country so far.

The latest day's infection rate was 11.35% of the total tests, though the overall rate in the country till date was 18.33%.

In the past 24 hours, 1,591 patients were declared free of Covid-19, raising the total number of recoveries to 289,912 with a 77.13% recovery rate.

The gender breakdown of Covid-19 victims shows that 4,222 of the total deceased were men, and 1,255 were women.

The country's maiden cases were reported on March 8 this year and the first death from the virus was reported on March 18.
