Bangladesh confirmed 16 more deaths from the novel coronavirus in the last 24 hours till 8am Thursday.

The country's death toll from the virus now stands at 7,849, said a press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

In the last 24 hours, 813 people tested positive for Covid-19, taking the number of novel coronavirus cases in the country to 5,25,723. Today's infection rate stands at 4.09%, dropping below 5% for the first time in more than 9 months.

The country's first Covid-19 cases were reported on 8 March this year and the first death from the virus was reported on 18 March.
