Katakhali village in Pabna under lockdown 

The local administration has put Katakhali village in Chatmohar upazila of Pabna under lockdown to prevent the transmission of deadly coronavirus.

Sarkar Mohammad Raihan, executive magistrate and upazila nirbahi officer (UNO), made the announcement around 10:30pm on Thursday.

Local sources said, panic spread among the villagers on Thursday afternoon when they saw a significant number of people from areas outside the village had arrived there.

Later, a local coronavirus awareness committee found that a total of 48 people went to the village from Dhaka, Chattogram and Madaripur districts after the government announced holidays. 

All of them were permanent residents of the village but lived in different places to work as day labourers.

When the villagers informed the upazila administration and police, UNO Sarkar Mohammad Raihan went to Katakhali and locked down 48 houses where those persons stayed. 

He also put the whole village under lockdown and said nobody will be allowed to enter or leave the village. 

"If anybody disobeys the rules, tougher action will be taken against him," he added.

The UNO also advised the people to be more aware of the coronavirus instead of panicking over it. 

Officer in Charge of Chatmohar Police station Nasir Uddin was also present when the village was locked down.

Katakhali is the first village in the country which was put under lockdown over coronavirus situation.
