Anwer Khan Modern Hospital’s ICU team quarantined

All doctors, nurses and ward staff of Anwar Khan Modern Medical College and Hospital's intensive care unit (ICU) have been sent to quarantine after an elderly patient died there believed to be from the novel coronavirus yesterday. 

The hospital authorities have also closed the ICU unit today.

Hospital's Assistant Director Dr Fakhrul Ahsan said, "The ICU has been closed for thorough cleaning and disinfection."

"Doctors usually stay in quarantine in many cases," he added.

However, a number of ICU ward staff said, an elderly patient died from coronavirus at the hospital on Monday. So they all were asked to go into home quarantine.

Earlier in the day, Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) Director Professor Dr Meerjady Sabrina Flora said, "An elderly patient, who was undergoing treatment at a private hospital, died from coronavirus on Monday."

IEDCR confirmed it after testing sample of the patient and ordered all the staff of ICU team of the hospital to go into quarantine.

Earlier on March 21, four doctors, 12 nurses and three other supporting staff of Delta Medical College and Hospital were sent to home quarantine as they treated a coronavirus patient, who died at the hospital. Later one of the doctors tested positive with the virus.

Bangladesh confirmed the fourth death from the novel coronavirus and six new cases in last 24 hours in the country on Tuesday.

IEDCR confirmed first death from coronavirus infection on March 18, second death on March 21 and third death on March 23. The total number of infected patients is now 39 in the country.
